When is the best time to travel for an Africa round trip?
The best time to travel for a group tour in Africa in the major safari regions of East and southern Africa is generally the dry season from May or June to October.
These include countries such as Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. In these months the vegetation is thinner, waterholes concentrate the game, and the roads are easy to drive – ideal conditions for impressive wildlife viewing. June to August are also considered particularly pleasant in terms of climate. As this period is high season, early booking is recommended.
The rainy season from November to April is low season: the landscape is lush green, many young animals can be seen, and trips are often cheaper. However, the animals spread out more across the terrain, so sightings can be somewhat more challenging.
Victoria Falls offers an impressive natural spectacle, particularly in March and April.
Shoulder-season months – such as January or June in East Africa – also combine good sightings with moderate visitor numbers.
Overall, however, there are big regional differences, and a look at our blog gives a more detailed overview.

How many participants are there on a group tour in Africa?
The group size on group tours in Africa varies by tour and travel style between 7 and 16 participants plus guide. At Elefant-Tours we offer different options aimed at comfort and an intensive nature experience.
Mini-group tours
Very popular are our mini-group tours with a maximum of 7 participants, which we offer mainly in Namibia, Botswana, Kenya and Tanzania.
The reduced group size allows more flexibility and a more personal safari experience. In addition, on our guided mini-group safari tours every guest has their own window seat in the Toyota Land Cruiser – ideal for wildlife viewing and photography.
Small-group tours
On our small-group safari tours and small-group trekking tours, up to 10 participants travel together. These tours offer space and comfort without losing the shared experience.
The group size allows the safari or trekking guide to respond to your individual wishes and questions, which makes the experience even more unique.
Small groups foster a familial atmosphere and allow participants to feel more like part of nature instead of travelling in an anonymous tour group. This creates an intensive and authentic experience.
We offer these small-group tours with up to 10 participants in South Africa, Namibia and on Kilimanjaro.
Group tours
On our group tours you travel – depending on the itinerary and vehicle used – in somewhat larger groups of up to 12 or 16 people.
These group sizes still allow personal care and a pleasant, familial atmosphere. At Elefant-Tours it is particularly important to us that our guests are not just a name or a number on a list, but are seen and accompanied as individuals.
All our Africa group tours thrive on intensive impressions, real encounters and a sense of adventure. Experienced guides ensure that you can enjoy these moments in complete relaxation, without having to worry about the organisation in the background.
This is how you experience your personal Africa – safe, well looked after and authentic.

Are group tours in Africa suitable for families with children?
In principle, group tours in Africa are also suitable for families with children. South Africa and Namibia in particular offer well-developed infrastructure and comparatively affordable prices, which make wonderful family trips possible.
However, travelling in a group requires a certain amount of travel experience and maturity on the part of the children . In addition, age restrictions at some lodges and camps make it harder to take part in certain offers.
The travel pace should also be considered; it follows a fixed itinerary and can feel tiring and challenging for smaller children on longer drives.
Here a private round trip can be the better choice, as your guide can adapt fully to you and your children's needs. Extra breaks or stopovers can be planned in so that the children and you can travel through the country in a more relaxed and flexible way.
If you would like to travel together with other families with children, our "Namibia family trip" is exactly right for you. It is aimed specifically at families who want to discover Namibia together. The travel pace and programme points are deliberately designed to suit children and offer experiences for young and old.

Does Elefant-Tours offer German-speaking group tours?
Yes, in all southern and East African countries with group tour offerings, we offer German-speaking group tours:
On the various tours you can sit back and relax, enjoy the view from your window seat and listen to the guide's German-language explanations.
Our group tours are led by highly qualified and experienced German-speaking guides who know the specifically African national culture.
They are happy to share their knowledge of the land and people, culture, nature and wildlife. With their trained eye they also help you spot animals where many travellers see only a bush.
Please note that the range of group tours with German-speaking guides is limited, as we only work with experienced experts who know not only the language but above all their region and the wildlife very well. We therefore recommend booking early, especially in high season.
As we also offer the same group tours in English, you should contact us to confirm the German-language group tours in Africa.
Can you combine several countries on group tours through Africa?
Yes, on a group tour through Africa you can combine several countries well. In southern Africa, among others, Namibia and Botswana, as well as Botswana and Zimbabwe, or Namibia, Botswana and South Africa can be linked well; in East Africa, Kenya and Tanzania.
On our Best of Tanzania & Kenya – East Africa safari with a maximum of 7 participants, for example, you explore the highlights of East Africa. Look forward to spectacular wildlife viewing, impressive landscapes and intensive safari experiences in two of Africa's most fascinating countries.
On our trip Facets of Africa you discover the highlights of Namibia and Botswana – from impressive landscapes to extraordinary wildlife encounters. The crowning finale is a detour to Zimbabwe to see the impressive Victoria Falls.
Our cross-border trip Wanderlust Africa – Camping between the Zambezi and Kruger also offers impressions from a variety of African countries. Here you start your trip in Zambia, travel on to Malawi and Mozambique and on to Kruger National Park in South Africa.
A particularly extraordinary trip is offered by our Safari Highlights & Victoria Falls – Botswana and Zimbabwe group tour. You discover some of the best wildlife areas in Botswana and get to know the highlights of Zimbabwe more intensively at the same time.
If you are interested in cross-border trips involving Zimbabwe or Zambia, we recommend checking the itineraries carefully. Many tours begin or end there, but include only a stay at Victoria Falls.
We offer a wide variety of country combinations. Our travel experts are happy to advise you and find the right trip together with you.
