When is the best time to travel for a round trip through Zimbabwe?
The best time to travel for a round trip through Zimbabwe is generally between May and October. This is the dry season, which offers ideal conditions for safari tours and a visit to Victoria Falls.
The temperatures are pleasant, reaching between 25 and 30 °C during the day, and it rarely rains.
The months May to July are considered a particularly good time to visit Victoria Falls, as the water level of the Zambezi gradually falls. This produces less spray, which noticeably improves the view from the viewpoints around the falls.
As the dry season progresses, more and more gaps open up along the cliffs, so that by October only a little water plunges over the rocks. You can find detailed information on the best time to travel to Victoria Falls here.
The period May to October is especially ideal for a safari in Zimbabwe, above all in Hwange National Park and Zambezi National Park.
In the dry season the animals concentrate around the few remaining water sources, which makes wildlife viewing considerably easier. These months therefore offer the best conditions for unforgettable safari experiences and wildlife viewing.
The best time to travel to Zimbabwe at a glance:
- Victoria Falls: May to July for clear views and impressive vistas of the plunging masses of water.
- Safari in Hwange and Zambezi National Parks: dry season (May to October), particularly good for wildlife viewing.
- Boat safaris in Mana Pools National Park: rainy season (November–March) allows impressive boat safaris along the Zambezi floodplains.
How much time do you need for a Zimbabwe group tour?
A group tour through Zimbabwe generally lasts around two weeks, depending on which highlights, national parks and activities are included in the itinerary.
These round trips combine impressive nature experiences, exciting wildlife viewing and cultural highlights into a varied trip.
Away from the classic tourist trails, many routes quickly turn into real adventure trips with intensive insights into the country.
Our Zimbabwe group tours always also include a visit to the neighbouring country of Botswana or other countries.
If you would like to travel only in Zimbabwe, you can alternatively opt for an individually planned private trip. Contact our travel experts for individual advice.
How many people are usually in a group on a Zimbabwe group tour?
Depending on the travel style, our group tours in Zimbabwe are run in small, pleasant groups: a maximum of 7 participants on mini-group tours, 12 on small-group tours and 16 on classic group tours.
These manageable group sizes provide enough space, comfort and an intensive nature experience. At the same time a personal, almost familial atmosphere emerges in which travellers quickly get to know each other and share experiences together.
The small group also allows the safari guide to respond to individual questions and interests. At Elefant-Tours we place great importance on every guest feeling personally looked after.
Our experienced guides take care of the organisation in the background, so you can concentrate fully on the fascinating nature, authentic encounters and your very own Africa adventure.
What kind of vehicle will I travel in on a guided group tour in Zimbabwe?
On our group tours in Zimbabwe you travel – depending on the travel style – in comfort in a Toyota Land Cruiser or in specially developed overland trucks. These robust four-wheel-drive vehicles are ideally suited to the changing road conditions in southern Africa and allow safe and comfortable travel even in remote regions.
Toyota Land Cruiser on mini-group tours
Our Toyota Land Cruisers are specially equipped for safaris and offer a high level of comfort off-road. Large windows and a pop-up roof provide the best wildlife viewing and photo opportunities.
Every guest gets a guaranteed window seat. Practical charging stations and a fridge for cool drinks while driving are also available.
Overland truck on small-group and group tours
Our overland trucks are sturdily built and ideal for remote routes. Individual seats with seat belts offer plenty of legroom, while large sliding windows provide the best views and photo opportunities.
Thanks to generous storage space, practical equipment and safe boarding, you travel in comfort and experience Zimbabwe's nature and wildlife authentically and intensely.
Which combination trips are suitable for Zimbabwe?
A number of combination trips are suitable for Zimbabwe.
- Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa: On our Zimbabwe and Botswana Game Trail and our Zimbabwe and Botswana Game Tracker trip, you start your safari adventure in South Africa's Kruger National Park.
- Zimbabwe and Namibia: In Namibia the special experience of the Namib Desert with its fascinating sand dunes awaits you, before you head to the water-rich Victoria Falls. For example on our small-group tour Facets of Africa.
- Zimbabwe and Botswana: Only a good hour from Victoria Falls you are already in Botswana, to experience the natural wonders of Chobe National Park and the Okavango Delta. For example on our tour Safari Highlights & Victoria Falls – Botswana and Zimbabwe group tour.
Among the most popular combinations are group tours that link South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Victoria Falls, such as Comfortably from the Cape to Victoria Falls.
Contact our travel experts for individual advice and planning of a guided group or private trip to Zimbabwe that combines the country with its neighbouring countries.
Are group tours in Zimbabwe safe?
Group tours in Zimbabwe are considered safe, especially when organised and run by experienced tour operators.
Safe destinations
Well-known destinations such as Hwange National Park, Victoria Falls and the majestic Zambezi River offer not only breathtaking nature but also a well-developed tourism infrastructure for Zimbabwe group tours.
Experienced guides and rangers minimise the risk from wild animals and ensure the safety of travellers.
Travelling safely in Zimbabwe
For group tours into Zimbabwe's rural regions, robust off-road vehicles are used that easily cope with demanding road conditions.
Safety and health in Zimbabwe
The crime rate in Zimbabwe is relatively low compared with other African countries. Nevertheless, basic safety precautions should be observed, such as avoiding visible valuables in busy towns.
In remote areas medical care may be limited. It is therefore recommended to talk to your trusted tropical medicine doctor in advance about possible vaccinations and prophylaxis.
A travel health insurance policy with repatriation cover provides additional security.
Important notes for the trip
In Zimbabwe, longer power cuts can occur in some areas. Tour leaders and accommodation are, however, prepared for these conditions and offer suitable solutions.
Group tours in Zimbabwe the best choice
Group tours to Zimbabwe are the ideal way, especially for first-time visitors to the country, to experience its diversity safely and comfortably.
How much does a Zimbabwe group tour cost?
Prices for a guided group tour to Zimbabwe vary depending on various factors, such as travel season, accommodation, group size and the level of comfort desired.
On average, for a two- to three-week group tour that combines Zimbabwe with other African destinations, you should expect to pay about 2,200 to 5,900 euros per person.
Accommodation and comfort: your choice determines the price
Accommodation is a major price factor. Comfortable lodges or exclusive safari camps offer a high level of comfort, which raises the price accordingly. If you have a budget in mind, you can also opt for a camping safari or simpler accommodation, which is cheaper.
Group size and travel season: important factors for the price
As a rule, our Zimbabwe group tours are designed for a maximum of 7, 12 or 16 participants. These manageable group sizes provide more comfort and flexibility during the trip. A group size of 12 or 16 travellers generally has only a limited influence on the trip price.
The best time to travel to Zimbabwe is between May and October, the dry season, when the chances of wildlife sightings are especially high. In this high season prices rise due to higher demand.
In the rainy season from November to April prices tend to be lower, which makes the low season an attractive option for travellers with a smaller budget.
Included services and additional costs
The prices for Zimbabwe group tours usually include accommodation, national park fees, game drives, some meals and an experienced guide.
International flights, optional activities (e.g. boat trips, private safaris) and day-to-day meals are generally not included in the trip price and must be paid separately.
Are there German-speaking Zimbabwe group tours?
Yes! We offer four cross-border group tours with German-speaking departures that include Zimbabwe in the itinerary:
- the 16-day Facets of Africa
- the 16-day Zimbabwe and Botswana Game Tracker
- the 21-day Comfortably from the Cape to Victoria Falls and
- the 21-day Southern Africa Explorer
On the various group tours you can sit back and relax, enjoy the view from your window seat and listen to the German-language explanations.
Highly qualified and experienced German-speaking guides who know the regional culture of southern Africa lead these group safari trips and are happy to share their knowledge of the land and people, culture, nature and wildlife. With them you discover animals where many travellers see only a bush.
As we offer the same group safaris predominantly in English, you should contact us to confirm the German-language group tours in Zimbabwe.
