When is the best time to travel for a Namibia round trip?

The best time to travel for a Namibia round trip depends greatly on which regions you visit and what you want to experience.

In general, the dry season from May to October is considered particularly attractive, when wildlife viewing in Etosha National Park is at its most intense. Waterholes are scarce then, so elephants, lions, giraffes and zebras gather at the remaining watering places – perfect for safaris and photography.

Thanks to the moderate temperatures, hikes are also possible during this time in Namibia's otherwise notoriously hot areas.

As these months are also the high season, planning with sufficient lead time is necessary. Demand is high and prices rise accordingly.

The Namibian summer months from November to April are warmer and can occasionally bring rain, especially in the north of the country. The landscape then blooms in lush green, which is particularly appealing to nature and landscape photographers.

The desert regions, such as Sossusvlei, also look lively and colourful after rainfall.

In general: every season has its charms, but if you want to experience Namibia in a relaxed way, ideally travel outside the main holiday periods.

Not all guided round trips in Namibia are available all year round. However, Elefant-Tours has several group tours in its programme – such as the 13-day guided round trip Fascinating Namibia – that run in every season.

So you can choose between dry and rainy season, between high and low season. Contact our travel experts to find the ideal time for your Namibia round trip.

Is a Namibia group tour suitable for families with children?

Guided group tours in Namibia can also be suitable for families with children, depending on the children's travel experience and age. For younger children, however, we tend to recommend a private trip, which offers more flexibility.

In principle, Namibia is an excellent destination for families: compared with other African countries, the country often offers cheaper travel options and has a well-developed infrastructure that benefits families.

For sociable families we also offer a very special group tour to Namibia. Our Namibia family trip, on which children and adults alike get their money's worth.

The daily routines are child-friendly and safaris are organised so that they are also suitable for younger participants.

The programme was designed specifically for families with children aged 6 and over. Camping in the desert is on the programme, as are exciting game drives in Etosha National Park and relaxed walks.

You stay in carefully selected, family-friendly accommodation and an experienced guide makes sure everyone, young and old, feels at ease.

The 12-day tour combines adventure with relaxation and just the right amount of education. Children learn about animals, nature and culture in a playful way. Besides the child-friendly activities and game drives, there are plenty of breaks and time to relax in lodges or tented camps.

Thanks to experienced guides and safe trip organisation, parents can enjoy Namibia's landscape while the children have age-appropriate adventures. The group size is deliberately kept small, at a maximum of 12 participants.

This allows individual attention, while the family can also make new contacts with like-minded people.

A special highlight for children is evenings together around the campfire and counting stars. Animal sounds in the night give goosebump moments and create memories that last a long time.

From first safari experiences to the feeling of travelling through endless landscapes: Namibia offers pure adventure combined with safety and a well-developed infrastructure.

How much time do you need for a group tour in Namibia?

For a well-balanced Namibia trip, we generally recommend a length of 11 to 24 days. We can especially recommend our 13-day trip Fascinating Namibia. It offers enough time to discover the land, nature and culture at a relaxed pace.

Namibia is more than twice the size of Germany. Between Etosha and Sossusvlei – two particularly popular destinations on a Namibia round trip – lie approx. 1,000 kilometres.

The size, paired with the sometimes long distances between the National Parks, means that Namibia cannot be visited in a rush.

On longer round trips, such as Namibia's Diversity, there is by contrast enough time for side trips to more remote regions such as Twyfelfontein or Fish River Canyon. Tours such as Facets of Africa or Africa's Diversity even include neighbouring countries such as Botswana or Zambia with Victoria Falls.

Nevertheless, it is also possible to go shorter and more compact. If you only have limited time, you should concentrate on a particular region, for example the Namib Desert or Etosha National Park. If you only have a little time available, simply contact our travel experts, who will be happy to advise you.

Can you visit Victoria Falls on a Namibia round trip?

Yes, a Namibia round trip can be combined excellently with a visit to Victoria Falls, and we expressly recommend this combination.

Some itineraries, including the popular 16-day round trip Facets of Africa, lead through several countries and end at this spectacular natural wonder, which will impress you all the more after the quiet expanses of Namibia.

Located on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, Victoria Falls is one of the largest and mightiest waterfalls in the world. The thundering waters of the Zambezi plunge over 100 metres across a width of almost two kilometres – a spectacle that is rightly a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Falls look especially impressive from May to September, when the balance between an imposing volume of water and good visibility is optimal. From March to May the Falls carry the most water, but the huge spray can considerably restrict the view. It is not for nothing that people call them “Mosi-oa-Tunya” – “the smoke that thunders”.

The contrast creates the magic: while Namibia enchants you with endlessly wide desert landscapes, majestic dunes and stark beauty, as a crowning finale you experience the concentrated, untamed power of water in a lush green setting. This dramatic change from extreme dryness to overflowing water makes the trip an experience for all the senses.

Africa veterans and newcomers alike are delighted, because this route brings together some of the continent's greatest natural wonders: the red dunes of Sossusvlei, the wild Atlantic coast, the wildlife diversity of Etosha National Park and finally the majestic Victoria Falls.

This unbeatable combination of desert and water, of silence and thunder, of red and green makes a guided Namibia round trip with a side trip to Victoria Falls a truly unforgettable adventure.

How many people are usually in a group on a Namibia round trip?

On Elefant-Tours Namibia round trips you generally travel in small groups, with the group size differing depending on the travel style.

Mini-groups have a maximum of 7 participants and travel the country in comfortable Land Cruisers, while on a small-group tour in Namibia up to 10 people can take part in our specially converted Mercedes Sprinters. Our group tours have up to 16 participants and take place in overland trucks.

Take a look at the detailed itineraries, where you will always see how many people can take part in the trip you have chosen.

Small groups on guided round trips have proven their worth, as they allow a balanced relationship between community and individuality.

Every participant enjoys plenty of space in the vehicle, while at the same time a family-like atmosphere develops.

Another advantage of small groups is that the guides can respond individually to questions and wishes. Stops can also be made more flexibly – whether for a photo opportunity, a short break or a spontaneous wildlife sighting at the roadside.

The limited group size makes our Namibia round trips particularly intense and personal. At Elefant-Tours you are not a number, but a member of a small group of explorers sharing adventures together.

What travel styles are there in Namibia apart from group tours?

Besides classic group tours, Namibia, with its well-developed infrastructure, offers a range of different ways to travel.

Guided private trips

If you don't enjoy sociable group tours, private trips are ideal for you. Here we are happy to recommend our trip Namibia's Unspoilt North, on which you explore the north of the country in complete privacy with your personal guide.

Alternatively, you can have your own completely individual guided safari put together in Namibia. Simply contact our travel experts – they will put together your round trip entirely according to your personal wishes and ideas.

Fly-in safaris

For people who value their privacy and want to save as much time as possible on Namibia's long distances, so-called fly-in safaris are the perfect solution. You explore the country comfortably by light aircraft and at the same time enjoy spectacular views from a bird's-eye perspective.

Our fly-in safari Exclusive Namibia offers you exactly this: you fly over the endless expanses of the Namib Desert, reach remote lodges far off the beaten track and spend your valuable holiday time where it really counts – on intense nature experiences instead of long drives.

Self-drive tours

Here you take the wheel yourself and experience pure freedom: drive on well-built roads through one of Africa's most fascinating landscapes and explore Namibia with complete flexibility and independence.

Stop wherever you like – whether for a spontaneous sundowner at a lonely viewpoint, for wildlife viewing at the roadside or simply to let the endless vastness sink in.

While you enjoy the freedom of a road trip, planning stays relaxed and stress-free thanks to pre-booked accommodation. Our experienced travel experts know exactly what matters when booking rental cars and on tricky routes, and together with you they plan your ideal self-drive tour.

The choice of destinations and travel styles in Namibia is varied: contact us to find a tour that suits your ideas and needs.

How much does a Namibia group tour cost?

The cost of a group tour in Namibia depends on several factors, including group size, trip length, season, accommodation category and programme. On average, you should expect to pay 2,000 to 5,000 euros per person for a 12- to 16-day round trip.

The time of travel plays a big role: in the high season from June to October, when the dry season offers ideal conditions for wildlife viewing, prices are higher.

In the low season – roughly from November to April – not only are there fewer tourists around, but group tours are often cheaper.

The type of accommodation also affects the price. If you are travelling in a tent, the Discover Namibia tour is a good choice. At just under 1,750 euros for 11 days, it is our cheapest option.

On a camping tour like this, the equipment is included in the price, so you can arrive without a tent or sleeping bag.

If you prefer lodges and comfortable tented camps, you will pay more than for a simple camping trip. In return you benefit from unique accommodation in the middle of nature, without giving up authentic safari flair.

On all guided group tours in Namibia – including camping – the following generally applies: nights, transport, game drives and an experienced guide are included in the price.

This also applies to breakfast and dinner, while lunch and optional activities normally cost extra. Not included are also international flights as well as personal expenses and drinks. Whichever option you choose – Elefant-Tours' Namibia group tours offer good value for money.

Unique landscapes and wildlife that are second to none await you, paired with good infrastructure and a safe environment.

What tour vehicles are used on group tours in Namibia?

On group tours in Namibia, different tour vehicles are used depending on the route and group size. All are specially designed to offer comfort, safety and optimal views during your trip through Namibia's impressive landscapes.

Toyota Land Cruiser 4×4

This type of vehicle is used on some of our popular tours such as Fascinating Namibia and also the family trip. The vehicles are ideally suited to gravel tracks and off-road sections and, thanks to their robust construction, ensure maximum safety.

Every guest has their own window seat – perfect for wildlife viewing and photo stops. Charging points for cameras and smartphones are also available. The pop-up roof allows a raised view and even more intense safari moments.

Mercedes Sprinter

A Mercedes Sprinter is used for some of our small-group tours in Namibia. The large panoramic windows offer excellent views of Namibia's wide plains and mountain ranges.

The Sprinter is comfortably converted and particularly suited to routes that involve long driving distances. This way you travel in comfort, even when a stage is a little longer.

Overland truck

On classic overland tours – often also cross-border – the large overland truck is used. It offers plenty of storage space for luggage, camping equipment and provisions.

On our Namibia round trip with Victoria Falls you travel in these vehicles. They are ideal for extended round trips through several countries and combine functionality with solid off-road capability.

No matter which vehicle is used – every option is designed to give you a safe and comfortable travel experience through Namibia.
