Your camping group tour through Namibia starts at 2 pm in Windhoek at Hotel Safari. Here you meet your guide and your fellow travellers. After a short briefing and first getting to know each other, you set off on a city tour and see the sights of the capital. You will spend the evening at the famous Joe’s Beerhouse. The decor, the flair and above all the first-class game dishes make this restaurant one of the most popular meeting places in Windhoek. You spend the night at Hotel Safari.

After breakfast you leave Windhoek, and your camping adventure in Namibia begins. In the overland truck you drive south-west; your destination is the Namib Desert. During the afternoon you reach your camp, which lies directly below a towering rock in a private conservation area that is part of the NamibRand Nature Reserve. Surrounded by mountains and sand dunes, you will camp here for the next two nights in the solitude of the desert. Let the day draw gently to a close in this magnificent setting and enjoy a delicious dinner under the twinkling starry sky, before retiring to your tent to sleep.

Namib Desert
Your day begins with a view into the endless expanse of the Namib. Your experienced guide takes you on a morning hike and gives you a deep insight into the unique fauna and flora of the Namib. Keep an eye out for the local wildlife along the way. Your guide shows you how to read their tracks and shares with you his knowledge of their behaviour and their survival strategies in this hostile environment. During the hot midday hours you can relax at camp. In the afternoon you set off on a drive through the beautiful dune landscape. When the sun slowly approaches the horizon, you take a break. With a cool sundowner drink, the sunset is especially good to watch. As soon as it gets dark, you head back to camp. With a little luck you will come across nocturnal animals on the way.

You visit Deadvlei – a white clay pan enclosed by rust-red dunes, with dark, dead camelthorn trees – and Sossusvlei. Explore the area on foot and immerse yourself in the beauty of nature. The town is known for its wide range of activities: take a quad bike tour, go sandboarding or skydiving, or take a scenic flight (all optional). Those who prefer to take things more quietly will also get their money’s worth here. With its many shops, cafés and the beach promenade, the town invites you to stroll and linger. In the evening you have dinner together at one of the many restaurants (at your own expense). You spend two nights at Amanpuri Lodge.

Get out and watch the seals up close. Then you continue into Namibia’s interior. You drive through the vast desert to the famous Spitzkoppe, a group of bare granite peaks in the Namib Desert. The granite is more than 120 million years old and the highest elevation lies about 1,728 metres above sea level. The peaks stand out dramatically from the surrounding flat plains. On one of the days you shorten your game drive and go to the world-famous Okaukuejo waterhole, where for about 2 hours you wait patiently for the animals to come and quench their thirst, before leaving the park in good time.
