Zambia group tours
Round trips in Zambia inspire with authentic safari experiences, impressive nature and significantly fewer visitors than many other safari countries.
Popular routes lead from Victoria Falls through remote safari regions to some of the most unspoilt National Parks in southern Africa and offer intense nature and wildlife experiences away from the classic routes.

If you want to experience Zambia authentically, guided group tours let you discover impressive landscapes and comparatively little-visited reserves.
Regions such as the Lower Zambezi Valley and South Luangwa National Park in particular stand for unspoilt safaris with plenty of wilderness, experienced guides and relaxed trip organisation.

When is the best time to travel for a Zambia round trip?
The best time to travel for a Zambia round trip depends greatly on your travel interests and what you want to experience.
May to October is best suited to outdoor adventures and safaris with good wildlife viewing.
The months November to April are exciting for travellers looking for green, lush vegetation, dramatic waterfalls and an intense nature experience, even if the weather is less predictable.
Zambia has a tropical climate with alternating wet and dry periods, in which three seasons can be distinguished:
- A cool, very sunny dry season from May to August with pleasant daytime temperatures of around 23 °C, which can drop to about 6 °C at night.
- A hot dry season from September to mid-November with daytime temperatures between 24 and 32 °C.
- A hot and humid rainy season from November to April with temperatures ranging between 27 and 38 °C.
Within the dry season, many consider June to October the best time to travel for safaris, as more and more animals gather around ever fewer remaining water sources. The bush is also less dense, which makes wildlife viewing easier.
The rainy season from November to April has its own special charm too – the land shines in lush green and many animals give birth to their young at this time.
Victoria Falls is also especially impressive now, as it thunders into the gorge at full force. However, the best time to travel is towards the end of the rainy season and the start of the dry season, when the spray mist caused by the masses of water has calmed down and allows a clearer view of the Falls.
Can a group tour in Zambia be combined with other countries?
Yes, you can easily combine a group tour in Zambia with other countries! Five of the eight countries bordering Zambia offer exciting combination options:
- Zambia and Malawi: visit South Luangwa National Park in Zambia before treating yourself to relaxed days by the water and hiking opportunities at Lake Malawi in Malawi. For example on our tour Adventure Trip Zambia & Malawi.
- Zambia and Namibia: in Namibia, don't miss the special experience of the Namib Desert with its fascinating sand dunes. For example on our tour Victoria Falls & Highlights of Namibia.
The best time for safaris in all these countries is the dry season from May to October. Pay attention to visa regulations and plan your travel time well.

How many people are usually in a group on a Zambia group tour?
A maximum of 12 people can take part in our Zambia group tours. They are all combination trips with neighbouring countries.
This group size is geared to space and comfort as well as an intense nature experience. At the same time it offers a family-like atmosphere and allows travellers to get to know each other better.
Instead of travelling in an anonymous tour group, there is room here for shared, intense and authentic experiences in which participants can feel more like part of nature.
The group size also allows the safari guide to respond to individual wishes and questions, which makes the experience even more unique.
At Elefant-Tours it is particularly important to us that our guests are not just a number on a list but are seen and looked after as individuals.
Experience your personal Africa – safe, well looked after and authentic.
What kind of vehicle will I travel in on a group tour in Zambia?
On group tours in Zambia you travel in so-called overland trucks. These vehicles are specially designed for long distances and the changing road conditions in southern Africa.
Their robust construction allows the overland trucks to offer a safe and comfortable journey even on remote routes, without sacrificing adequate space, large windows for an optimal view of the landscape and storage space for luggage and camping equipment.
Your comfort is ensured by individual seats (with seat belts), plenty of legroom and large vertical sliding windows that give you an unrestricted view and generous room for photography. Angled roof hatches create a further “open” view.
In the integrated driver and passenger area, contact with the driver is always guaranteed. The trucks also have large storage compartments, a small fridge, a drinking water tank, interior lighting and a small gas stove, which however cannot be used inside the vehicle.
There is also a pull-out step to the passenger area, which makes it easier for fellow travellers to climb in.
What travel styles are there in Zambia apart from group tours?
Besides our Zambia group tours, we also offer tailor-made trips in Zambia, for example Safari in Zambia – The Diversity of the South and Unspoilt Zambia. With tailor-made trips, it is all about your individual ideas and wishes.
Whether you are an Africa veteran wanting to explore remote areas, a first-time safari-goer travelling for a special occasion or looking for an exciting adventure with the extended family – we stand at your side with our specialised team of Africa experts to make your dream come true.
Zambia offers a range of tailor-made ways to travel for individual travellers who are looking for unique experiences beyond group tours.
Private trips
A popular choice, on which you can travel with friends or family entirely as you wish in a private vehicle with a guide – sheltered, relaxed and full of experiences. Our guided private trips are especially popular because the guide can focus entirely on the family and their needs.
Fly-in trips
A fly-in safari is a particularly time-saving option in which you fly by light aircraft to Zambia's famous National Parks and sights.
This way you reach remote areas and also enjoy breathtaking views from the air – ideal for travellers who want to save valuable time to see more of Zambia.
Zambia trips offer the perfect experience for every taste!
How much does a Zambia group tour cost?
Prices for a guided Zambia group tour depend on various factors, including time of travel, accommodation, group size and comfort.
On average you can budget around 3,150 to 3,750 euros per person for a 2–3-week group tour.
Accommodation is a major price factor: comfortable lodges or safari camps offer a higher level of comfort and are correspondingly more expensive, while camping safaris or simpler accommodation are cheaper.
Group size generally also plays a role, but has no influence here, as all group tours are designed for a maximum of 12 fellow travellers.
Time of travel: Zambia has two main travel periods: the dry season from May to October, when wildlife viewing is at its best, and the rainy season from November to April, when prices are lower.
In the high season (May to October) prices can rise, while cheaper offers can be found in the low season.
The prices for Zambia group tours normally include accommodation, National Park fees, game drives, some meals and an experienced tour leader.
Additional costs such as international flights, optional activities (e.g. boat trips, private safaris) or daytime meals are generally not included in the price and must be paid separately.
Zambia is known for its impressive nature, in particular Victoria Falls and the diverse wildlife. Whether for adventurers or travellers with higher comfort expectations, there are numerous offers for different budgets.
Are group tours in Zambia safe?
Group tours in Zambia are considered safe, especially when organised by experienced tour operators. An experienced guide ensures safety throughout the trip and knows the local conditions as well as the wildlife.
The tourist infrastructure in Zambia is good, especially in popular regions such as the South Luangwa or Kafue National Parks.
In more remote areas, healthcare can be limited. Please inform your GP or tropical medicine specialist about your trip and get advice on recommended vaccinations or prophylaxis.
The crime rate in Zambia is lower compared with other African countries. Nevertheless, basic precautions should be taken, such as not carrying valuables in busy areas or avoiding less safe areas at night.
The road infrastructure in larger cities such as Lusaka or Livingstone is good, but in remote areas road conditions can be more difficult. Specially adapted, off-road-capable vehicles are used for group tours.
Especially for newcomers to Africa and Zambia, group tours in Zambia are recommended as a safe and well-organised experience.
Are there German-language Zambia group tours?
Yes! We offer three cross-border group tours with German-language departures that start or end in Zambia:
- the 22-day Africa Wanderlust – Camping between the Zambezi and Kruger
- the 16-day Adventure Trip Zambia & Malawi
All of these group safaris are tailored to up to 12 participants and all have an eventful programme with African wildlife as the highlight.
You visit great sights in various wildlife reserves in Zambia, Botswana and Namibia, including Victoria Falls, Chobe National Park, the Okavango Delta and the sand sea of the Namib Desert with the highest dunes in the world.
On the various tours you can sit back and relax, enjoy the view from your window seat and listen to the German-language commentary.
These group safari trips are led by highly qualified and experienced German-speaking guides who are familiar with German-language and regional culture in southern Africa.
They gladly share their knowledge of the land and people, culture, nature and wildlife. Their trained eye also spots animals where many travellers see only a bush.
As we offer the same group safaris mainly in English, you should contact us to confirm the German-language group tours in Zambia.
