Madikwe Game Reserve
In the northernmost tip of South Africa’s North West Province, close to the border with Botswana, lies one of the largest game reserves in South Africa: Madikwe Game Reserve. In a major operation in the early 1990s, more than 8,000 animals were reintroduced here. Today the park is home not only to numerous representatives of the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo), but also to a number of other mammal species such as various antelope species, spotted hyenas, cheetahs and the rare African wild dogs. Thanks to the ideal conditions in the game reserve, the highly endangered African wild dogs have multiplied in large numbers in recent years, so that with a little luck impressive sightings are possible.
On arrival you are welcomed with a small snack or coffee and cake, before heading out on your first guided game drive in an open safari vehicle of the lodge in the afternoon. Over the coming days you explore Madikwe Game Reserve on morning and afternoon game drives (bush walks are only possible at Impodimo Game Lodge) with the lodge’s guides. From the lodge you can also take part in a night game drive, with good chances of spotting nocturnal animals. During the hot midday hours you can rest at the lodge or watch the animals drinking at the nearby waterhole. All meals and 2 activities per day are included in the price. You spend the night at Mosetlha Bush Camp (basic option) or in a Luxury Suite at Impodimo Game Lodge (standard option).
