On an optional guided city tour you can learn more about Zimbabwe's vibrant capital and discover sights such as Africa Unity Square, the National Gallery or lively markets. After your breakfast, your Zimbabwe self-drive tour begins and you drive south to Masvingo and the Great Zimbabwe Ruins, where you reach your beautiful accommodation, Romelda Lakeside Retreat, around midday.

Let the day wind down comfortably by the pool and later over a sundowner and a delicious dinner.

You can use the following day to explore at your leisure the largest ruins in southern Africa. They have been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1986. When the so-called Great Enclosure stands in the light of the setting sun, you can take the most beautiful pictures of the ruins.

Two nights at Romelda Lakeside Retreat.

Today your self-drive tour takes you via Masvingo to Bulawayo, the second-largest city in the country and the economic and cultural centre of Matabeleland. You then continue your drive towards Matobo National Park, where the beautiful Amalinda Lodge awaits you. The lodge's unique rooms are nestled harmoniously among the impressive granite rocks and create an extraordinary atmosphere that blends perfectly into the surrounding landscape. Here you enjoy peace, nature and a very special ambience.

Matobo National Park has a number of cultural and scenic attractions. With the largest rock art gallery in the world, Matobo has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2003.

In the interplay of light and shadow at sunset, World’s View rock plateau gives you a magnificent panoramic view of the hilly landscape of rocks, stones and bushland. A large population of black and white rhinos makes a drive through the National Park especially interesting.

Activities included: rhino tracking, a visit to the San Bushmen rock paintings, a village visit.

Day 8-10

Matobo National Park – Hwange National Park

Driving distance approx. 330 km; pure driving time approx. 7 hours

Now you continue to Sable Valley Lodge in Hwange National Park, the largest National Park in Zimbabwe. Allow plenty of time for this stage, as road conditions vary greatly.

Hwange National Park borders Botswana to the west, so the animals can roam across the border and visit the numerous waterholes in the park.

Over the coming three days, extended wildlife viewing in an open safari vehicle is on the programme. Here you have the chance to watch elephants, giraffes, zebras and various kinds of antelope. With a little luck you may even spot wild dogs, lions, hyenas or leopards coming to the waterholes to drink.

Your experienced guides give you fascinating insights into the behaviour and way of life of the animals. Besides the impressive wildlife, you enjoy the unspoilt nature of the park while soaking up the stillness and vastness of the African wilderness.

Includes two safari activities per day
