Highlights of self-drive (rental car) tours in Zimbabwe

Thanks to good road signage, relatively good infrastructure and very friendly people, Zimbabwe is a suitable destination for tailor-made round trips by rental car. Please note, however, that some tracks in the National Parks are very difficult to drive (deep sand tracks, poor gravel tracks). In these parks we have included guided game drives in a safari vehicle in the price. If you would like to discover the National Parks on your own during your Zimbabwe round trip, a 4x4 vehicle is absolutely essential. On a self-drive (rental car) tour in Zimbabwe, look forward to these highlights:

Good infrastructure outside the National Parks

Road conditions and signage

Enjoy seclusion and exclusivity

Fewer other travellers in camps and parks

Exciting wildlife viewing

On game drives, boat trips and on foot

Experience culture and history

Historic sites of southern Africa

Guest feedback“The travel tips and route descriptions provided by Elefant-Tours were a very good orientation; the booked flights, the rental cars and all the pre-planned accommodation matched the descriptions and were perfectly coordinated.”

If you mainly want to enjoy exciting wildlife viewing on a self-drive tour through Zimbabwe, you can look forward to impressive experiences in the dry season from mid-May to the end of October. The vegetation is sparser at this time and allows better wildlife sightings. Many animals also come to drink at the few remaining waterholes in the dry season. If you want to see Victoria Falls at their highest water level, on the other hand, you should travel to Zimbabwe in the rainy season between February and April. A round trip through Zimbabwe can also be combined with a visit to the neighbouring countries: South Africa, Botswana, Zambia and Namibia are all easy to reach. The National Parks in northern Botswana in particular are recommended for wildlife viewing.
