Our expert tip“In the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, I saw the Big Five within just 1.5 hours! But a special highlight is the Solio Game Reserve, an insider tip in Kenya: here you see herds of rhinos – not just individual rhinos, but large groups. A truly impressive experience.

Northern Kenya shows that there is so much more to discover here than the classic parks.”

Our trip was a highlight from start to finish.”

Tip: open a day – the map jumps to that place.

Day 1

Nairobi – Solio Game Reserve – Aberdare region

Driving distance approx. 200 km; pure driving time approx. 3.5 hours

Learn more ↓

We leave the rest of the world behind and set off on a safari through Kenya's exciting and remote north. In the morning we meet you for a briefing, where you also get to know your safari guide.

Then you head north in a 4×4 Toyota Land Cruiser. From your window seat, you watch the city buildings give way to bushland and the open steppe. Out here, nature rules.

In time for your picnic lunch, you arrive at Solio Game Reserve in the Aberdare region. Solio is a real insider tip on the tourist map, but very well known among conservationists in the region for its large rhino populations.

It is one of the best places, if not the best place in East Africa, to see many rhinos. Alongside lions, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, waterbuck and many other species, they live in this exclusive and picturesque game reserve. You will be surprised how much you experience and learn on your very first day on the road.

As the sun goes down, you leave Solio Game Reserve and drive to the idyllic Aberdare Country Club, where you spend the first night of your safari.

Day 2

Aberdare region – Samburu Nature Reserve

Driving distance approx. 170 km; pure driving time approx. 4 hours

Learn more ↓

A very special morning awaits you today on your safari in Kenya: on a nature walk through your lodge's private conservancy, you explore the local wildlife on foot.

Together with a ranger, you walk among giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and other wild animals. This walking safari is a unique opportunity to get as close to the animals as is otherwise never possible.

Unfamiliar smells, colours and sounds will surprise you and let you immerse yourself in Kenya's wild nature.

Afterwards, you can rest in your comfortable Toyota Land Cruiser while your guide takes you to your next destination: the Samburu Nature Reserve.

Samburu sets itself apart from other parks with its spectacular landscapes and unique wildlife. Large herds of elephants, lions and buffalo share Samburu with the oryx, Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe and the gerenuk, or giraffe antelope. These species are found only in Kenya's northern parks.

On a game drive in the afternoon, you explore this remote nature reserve together with your guide. Like many other northern parks, Samburu is still comparatively unknown internationally – an exclusive and private experience away from the tourist crowds awaits you.

Your home for the next two nights of the Samburu safari is Ashnil Samburu Camp on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River.

Day 3

Samburu Nature Reserve

Learn more ↓

The sounds of the wilderness wake you early in the morning and a new exciting safari day on your Samburu safari begins. Today you explore Samburu and the neighbouring Buffalo Springs Nature Reserve on game drives.

You have plenty of time to watch the resident wildlife in peace and also to enjoy the small moments in nature. Your guide shares his local knowledge of animal behaviour and their social structures with you.

The region's dry and hot climate gives it a character all its own: from grassland and scrub to a variety of inselbergs, also called kopjes, and the lifeline, the Ewaso Nyiro River – the whole landscape is bathed in the magical light of northern Kenya.

During the dry season, the river attracts many animals and is the ideal place for exciting wildlife sightings. Watch elephants crossing the riverbed, gerenuks using their long necks to reach the leaves high up in the bushes, lions seeking refuge from the sun in the shade and crocodiles lurking for prey in the shallow water.

On a game drive in Samburu, you truly feel as if you have left the world as you know it behind.

As the shadows slowly lengthen, you return to Ashnil Samburu Camp, your home in the middle of nature.

Day 4

Samburu Nature Reserve – Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Driving distance approx. 145 km; pure driving time approx. 3 hours

Learn more ↓

For one last time on your Samburu safari, you look out for the region's unique wildlife as you leave the camp in the morning. But the next opportunity for exciting wildlife sightings is not long in coming.

In the early afternoon, you reach the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in the beautiful Mt Kenya region. This private “Big Five” conservancy on the equator is a leading example of successful conservation in Kenya and home to the endangered black rhinos and African wild dogs.

On your game drive in the afternoon, keep your eyes open not only for these rare animals, but also for the other members of the Big Five.

In a comparatively small area, you see a wide variety of animal species in Ol Pejeta – while the mighty Mt Kenya towers in the background.

You spend the night at Sweetwaters Serena Camp. From the private terrace of your safari tent, you can watch the local wildlife while enjoying a sundowner.

Day 5

Ol Pejeta Conservancy – Nairobi

Driving distance approx. 210 km; pure driving time approx. 4–5 hours

After a delicious breakfast, it is time to leave the bush behind and drive back to Kenya's bustling capital, Nairobi. Here we drop you off at your hotel and say goodbye.

If you would like to extend your Kenya safari, you can instead book a flight to the Masai Mara Game Reserve, departing from Nanyuki near the Ol Pejeta Conservancy.

Without having to drive to Nairobi, you reach the Masai Mara, one of the best-known and most popular conservation areas in the world, on the same day.

Get in touch with us and we will plan your flight and your follow-on safari. We would also be happy to offer you a suitable proposal for a beach hotel on one of the beaches of Mombasa or the surrounding area.
