By rental car through Namibia: what you should know before you set off!
On a road trip through Namibia there is plenty to discover, and part of the adventure is not being prepared for every eventuality. Observing a few basic rules is still important, though, because a road trip through Namibia is no Sunday drive through the Black Forest.

A long way around – Namibia 2016
Full of anticipation, on Easter Monday I took the train to Frankfurt to fly with Air Namibia directly to Windhoek. On arrival I was picked up on time by our partner and taken into town to my first accommodation.
Born to be killed
With this headline one might think of chickens, cattle, sheep or pigs – farm animals, whose meat, milk or eggs have nourished humankind for centuries. Hardly anyone would book a safari in Africa for their sake. What thrills holidaymakers here are wild animals such as giraffes, zebras, elephants, rhinos and so many more.
Malawi – The Warm Heart of Africa
In April 2016 I flew with South African Airways from Frankfurt via Johannesburg to Lilongwe. At the airport our driver and the other participants of this info trip, run by Malawian Style, were waiting for me. Since 1975 Lilongwe has been the capital of Malawi, with currently around 800,000 inhabitants.

Termite delights
Who in residential areas doesn't feel dread at the slightest sign of termites? This crawling menace that has no respect for property and nests uninvited in wooden structures.
Psst … water crisis
"Well, Juan, you know what tourists are like," a hotel owner in Windhoek recently told me when I was talking to her about Namibia's worrying water problem. "When they arrive here in the morning after their long flight, many of them jump straight into the shower.
Malawi's elephants – evacuated and relocated
What if a wildlife reserve runs out of animals and no replacements can be ordered at www.send-new-animals.de? A question Malawi has been asking itself for a long time. An answer has now been found.
At the Tropic of Capricorn – the Tropic of Capricorn in Namibia
Anyone who hears "Tropic of Capricorn" probably thinks straight away of Henry Miller's novel of the same name: a ruthless exposure of the American way of life in 1920s New York. Others may picture it more figuratively, such as how the high altitudes of the Alps affect the realm of the ibex that lives there.
Fascination football – Elefant-Tours supports the non-governmental organisation "Oasis"
For the majority of Black and Coloured South Africans, football and enthusiasm for the sport are as much a part of South Africa as the impressive landscapes, the sun, the friendly people and the wild animals.
Photo tour 2016 through central and northern Namibia
In spring 2016, too, I accompanied a 14-day photo tour through the wild, unspoilt north of Namibia as a photo guide for Elefant-Tours. Alongside landscape photography, the tour programme focused above all on wildlife photography.
Cheetah dream
It was only a few weeks ago that I sat with my guests at lunch in Etosha camp "Fort Namutoni", and we talked, deeply impressed, about the incredible abundance of wildlife we had been able to admire that morning and the day before.

At the end of November 2015 my info trip to South Africa began. Having only got to know the east of the African continent until then, I was curious what awaited me in the south. The trip began with a direct South African Airways flight to Johannesburg.
